As someone who writes computer programs yet struggles to change the ring tone on my cell phone, I empathize with how frustrating technology can be.

So, in the past, when "non-technical" clients requested small web sites they could maintain themselves (for updating hours, prices, events, photos and other details), we had few options to offer.

"Build-it-yourself" services (offered by many hosting companies) were simple enough for clients but painfully cumbersome and limiting for our designers. Powerful CMS systems like Joomla, Drupple and Mambo offered almost unlimited design and development freedom, but bewildered clients with dizzying arrays of modules, components, filing systems and other bells and whistles.

To satisfy the needs of both our clients and designers, Advertising That Works created CMS Wow! -- an amazingly simple Content Management Stystem allows clients to update any of our custom-designed (non-template) web sites quickly and painlessly.

As an Advertising That Works client, we'll personally walk you through the steps of CMS Wow! It's so simple, however, that everything you'll need to know is outlined in the following few screen shots.

To prevent clients from "breaking" the most critical elements of their site (which tend to contain information that doesn't change) we enable CMS Wow! for only selected areas. In this example, we have activated the circled areas below... Main Photo; main section-Left Column; and main section-Right Column. The number of sections that can be designated as "updateable," however, is entirely flexible. It can be turned on or off for any sections of any page(s) on any web site.

For this example, we want to add another paragraph to the Right Column of the pastured-beef page.

(1) Security is important (to limit who can edit your web site), so log-in to the CMS Wow! Administrator page using your assigned user info.

(3) The selected page appears with all its editable sections. (In addition to the three sections mentioned above, we've enabled the Page Title, the Meta Keywords and the Meta Description fields for each page of this web site. These three elements affect how Search Engines rank and describe your web site.)

Scroll down to the Right Column section and, using our WYSIWYG (What You See Is What Your Get) editing tools, type your new content in the appropriate field. Then click the Modify Item button to finalize the update.

(5) If you want to change any photos on the page, click the Upload Images link. The form that appears will allow you to load new photos and graphics to the Images folder on your web site server.

(6) After uploading your photo(s), you'll receive confirmation if your upload was successful

(7) Finally, to instruct the web page to display the new image you just uploaded, once again, click on the Select a Page to Update link and click on the link for the pastured-beef page. In the page that appears, A) click once on the existing photo that you want to replace, B) click the Insert New Photo icon, C) enter the new photo file name in the Image URL field of the pop-up window. (When preparing your new photo, we ask that you make every effort to match the width and height Dimensions of the existing photograph in order to not "break" the page layout), D) click Update.

Congratulations! In only a few minutes, you've successfully updated both the words and pictures on this custom designed web page.
